Here's the running count for dog food recalls 2026: 12 recalls, one FDA "do not feed" advisory and one FDA warning letter, across dog food, treats and supplements. Every one was checked against its FDA notice, lot numbers included.

Honestly, it's the same story over and over: Salmonella and Listeria, most often in raw or frozen food, behind 7 of the 12 recalls and both FDA actions. The rest is metal or plastic in cans and vitamin levels that came out wrong.

The full list is below with lot numbers, so if your dog's food is on it, check the bag before her next meal. The 2025 list is further down. This page, same URL, gets updated monthly.

Newest first. Each brand name links to the official notice, so grab the bag and compare lot numbers before anything else.

Two veterinary drug recalls aren't here because they're medicine, not food: certain Wedgewood Pharmacy compounded medications (October 21) and two lots of Adequan Canine (July 31), so if your dog gets either, ask your vet.

The table also skips cat-only recalls (like Go Raw's Quest cat food) and two reports we couldn't verify on an FDA or company page: a Farmina mislabel recall and a Raw Bistro warning letter.

What's behind this year's dog food recalls

Bacteria, mostly in raw and frozen food. Of the 12 recalls, 7 were Salmonella or Listeria, 2 were foreign material (metal in Fromm cans, metal and plastic in Pedigree's) and 3 were vitamin mistakes (vitamin D in Revival's two milk replacer recalls, low thiamine in Steve's Real Food freeze-dried chicken). One of the seven was dry kibble, though: Young Again, which never got a press release and isn't on FDA's animal recall page, only in the enforcement database. Raw, frozen or freeze-dried products still make up 5 of the 12, plus both FDA actions.

How they got caught varies. FDA sampling found Salmonella at Albright's and Northwest Naturals. The Oma's Pride recall began with one consumer complaint (three dogs were reported sick), state labs in Connecticut and New Jersey tested Raaw Energy, an outside lab flagged Elite Treats, and metal complaints from customers set off Fromm's. Pedigree's is the odd case: cans meant for destruction that, the notice says, appear to have been "fraudulently diverted" and sold.

Soft chews aren't exempt. Fi recalled two dog supplements in September over possible Salmonella in a supplied ingredient, and in February 2025 Petdine recalled eight Zesty Paws soft chews it made, also for possible Salmonella, with no press release.

And since so much of this list lives in a freezer, FDA's reminder: "Refrigeration or freezing does not kill Salmonella or L. mono."

What to do if your dog's food is recalled

Stop feeding it to your dog and check the lot number. Recalls usually name specific lots, not the whole brand, so honestly it comes down to the code on your bag.

  • Match the lot number (it's near the best by date) to the notice exactly.
  • Keep the bag, or a photo of the lot, best by date and UPC.
  • Return it for the refund or throw it out sealed. Don't donate it.
  • Wash her bowls, the scoop, the freezer shelf it sat on, and your hands for 20 seconds.
  • Watch her for lethargy, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, fever or going off her food, and call your vet.
  • If anyone at home gets diarrhea or a fever, tell the doctor about the dog food (small kids, older people and weak immune systems get sicker).
  • Report it through FDA's Safety Reporting Portal or 1-888-INFO-FDA, with the lot, best by date and UPC.

One thing people skip: a dog can carry Salmonella and look completely fine, tail going, bowl licked clean, and still pass it to you.

Raaw Energy recall and FDA advisory

Raaw Energy frozen raw dog food got an FDA "do not feed" advisory on January 23, 2026, and a company recall of about 38 products on May 22, covering every tube dated 7/17/25 through 12/23/25 plus Beef & Turkey Medley coded 3.31.26.

It began with a Connecticut complaint about a sick dog. Connecticut and New Jersey state labs found Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella and Campylobacter jejuni across eight lots, all eight positive. FDA posted the advisory and said the firm had "not initiated an adequate recall." The May recall cites Listeria in New Jersey state samples and covers tubes sold in CT, DE, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NY, PA and VA, ordered online, picked up in person. The company reports no illnesses, though FDA's updated advisory says it has received more complaints of sick animals. Toss the tubes in a secure container (unreadable codes too) and disinfect the freezer.

Darwin's dog food FDA advisories

FDA issued two "do not feed" advisories for Darwin's Natural Pet Products in 2025, July 29 and September 24, and recommended a recall both times. Darwin's sells by subscription.

July's named three lots made in 2024, BioLogics Beef Recipe 10662, BioLogics Chicken Recipe 10683 and Natural Selections Duck Recipe 10638 (no expiration date on the label). Tests on food from a household freezer found E. coli O157:H7 in the beef and Salmonella in the chicken and the duck. A four-year-old in the house got E. coli O157:H7 in August 2024 and was hospitalized with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious kidney complication. The strain matched the beef.

In September it was two BioLogics Beef Recipe lots made in July 2025, 11895 and 11826. FDA sampled them after a complaint and found Listeria monocytogenes in one, Salmonella and Listeria in the other. No illnesses were linked to these lots. The company's letter to customers mentioned Listeria but not Salmonella. The lot code is on the front lower left of the pack.

Viva Raw recall

Viva Raw recalled two lots of its 1 lb frozen bricks on August 25, 2025, after the North Carolina Department of Agriculture's routine testing found Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses, according to the notice. Lot 21495 covers Ground Beef for Dogs and Beef & Turkey for Puppies. Lot 21975 is the chicken side: Ground Chicken for Dogs, Chunked Chicken for Dogs, Pure Chicken and Chicken for Cats. They sold July 2 to August 21, 2025, direct nationwide and at a few retailers in New York, Illinois, South Carolina, Florida, Kansas, California and Arizona. If your dog eats Viva Raw, the lot is printed on top of the brick.

Blue Ridge Beef recalls

Two Blue Ridge Beef recalls in 2025, both 2 lb logs sold January 3 to 24. January 31 was Natural Mix (labeled for dogs), lot N25/12/31, 5,700 pounds, Salmonella in a North Carolina agriculture sample taken January 8. That notice doesn't report any illnesses. April 11 started with a customer complaint about a sick animal. New York Agriculture and Markets sampled it, and North Carolina reported Salmonella and Listeria in Puppy Mix lot N25 1230 and Kitten Mix lot N26 0114 (lot stamped in the end clips). No confirmed illnesses beyond that complaint. Both sold at retail in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee and Rhode Island, plus Wisconsin in April.

Oma's Pride and Northwest Naturals recalls

The updated Oma's Pride notice reports three dog illnesses and none in people. One lot is involved, recalled August 12, 2026: Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe, the frozen raw 6 lb bag, lot BB012729, best by 1/27/2029. A consumer complaint came first, then FDA's sample tested positive for Salmonella. The 639 bags shipped February 12 to May 15, 2026 to Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Northwest Naturals came out of FDA sampling instead, on August 28, 2026. Salmonella turned up in the 2 lb Frozen Chicken Recipe, lot B-5 (labeled cat food, used as a dog topper), and Salmonella plus Listeria monocytogenes in the 6 lb Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe, lot B-19. Both sold at retail nationwide, and the notice reports no illnesses. Return either for a refund.

Dog food recalls 2025: the full list

The 2025 count: 11 recalls, two FDA "do not feed" advisories (both for Darwin's) and one warning letter, to Answers Pet Food. Bacteria drove 10 of the 11 recalls. The odd one out was Fromm's Bonnihill BeefiBowls, pulled over plastic pieces. Newest first, same as the 2026 table.

Jan 31, 2025 Blue Ridge Beef Natural Mix 2 lb logs (lot N25/12/31) Raw frozen Salmonella Voluntary recall

The quietest entry is the Petdine recall from February 17. Petdine, a contract manufacturer in Harvard, Illinois, recalled eight Zesty Paws soft chews (nine sizes) over possible Salmonella. No press release. FDA's Enforcement Report database has it as event 96442: Class I, one Illinois consignee, no further distribution, terminated April 7, 2025. If those chews are in your cupboard, our Zesty Paws recall write-up has the full record.

One more 2025 item, not a row. In January, FDA told makers of cat and dog food that use raw or unpasteurized poultry or cattle ingredients to add H5N1 bird flu as a hazard in their food safety plans. FDA also wrote that "H5N1 has not been detected in dogs in the United States, but there have been fatal cases in other countries." Every 2025 bird flu product action was cat food only, so none are above.

How to check if your dog's food has been recalled

A man photographs the lot number on a plain kibble bag with his phone to check it against the dog food recall lists, his adult black Labrador beside him
An adult black Labrador waiting while the kibble bag's lot number gets photographed.

Two FDA lists and the lot number on your bag. That's the whole method. FDA's animal recall page is where recalls with a press release land, and the catch is printed on it: "Not all recalls have press releases or are posted on this page." The quiet ones only appear in the Enforcement Report database. Young Again's kibble recall this February only shows there (customers got an email, no press release). So does the Zesty Paws one from 2025. It's not pretty, honestly, but it does email alerts, so sign up once. DogFoodAdvisor keeps a running list too, as a second check.

Then your dog's bag. The notice names a lot number, and FDA says it sits close to the best by or expiration date. Find it before the kibble goes into a storage bin and the bag into the recycling. The AVMA says keep that part of the package. If it matches, she's done with that bag and the steps higher up this page take over. If not, carry on.

We check both FDA lists and update this page every month. If something she stole off the counter brought you here, not a recall, what dogs can and can't eat is the page you want.

Photos don't show recalled products.
